Brandenburg State Parliament | Prime Minister consistently lacking ideas
Brandenburg's Minister-President Dietmar Woidke (SPD) let a full 105 days pass since his confirmation in office before finally delivering his long- overdue government statement on Wednesday. The long wait was of little use. After the constant reports of success and the embarrassing self-praise during the state election campaign, Woidke has now touched on some real problems. How he intends to solve them, however, remains largely unclear. The SPD is consistently running the state without any ideas.
"Housing must not become a luxury in Brandenburg," said Woidke, as if rents in the Berlin area weren't already far too expensive. At least the Minister-President promised to strengthen tenant protection. Otherwise, he seems to have only one panacea for all ailments: reduce bureaucracy so the economy booms and taxes flow. On a different note, the trade union warns that the radical reduction of the thresholds for awarding public contracts will put pressure on wages.
Casually woven into the government statement was the proposal to deport refugees or turn them back at the border. Such concessions to the AfD are unlikely to win back voters. The AfD is always one step ahead. Its parliamentary group leader, Hans-Christoph Berndt, announced drastic measures, disguised with terms like a "remigration offensive," that he would take if he were already in power. Anyone who does something like that shouldn't complain about being classified as a suspected right-wing extremist .
